29th November 2005 - Day 57
I realised that I was not the only one having problems counting money.
I approached Jan today to claim back my money for the Fluressen yesterday. The total amount was 21,48€.
Jan asked me if I had 2€ with me. He then took the 2€ from me and returned me 20,51€. I thought it was quite amusing because he even apologized himself that he didn't have any more small change and that I'll have to absorb the remainder of 0,97€.
Why did he asked for the 2€ earlier then?
Keine Ahnung. But since I had 0,52€ with me, I thought it'll be easier for him to give me back 22€ (or rather 24€).
At that point, he realised that he made the error, and waved his hand in front of his face, showing a dazed look.
I attended yet another lecture in German, and found that I was completely thrown off track. When I asked the Professor giving the lecture, saying that I have difficulty understanding what he said, he told me (something like) this:
"Ahh... No fear, as long as you have the lecture notes and read through it, you should be fine for the oral exams. I was just giving some examples during the lecture."
Hmmm. Now I understood what he said.
I've noticed some very nicely decorated kitchen on other floors here in the hostel through my window. It reminds me that Christmas is coming, even though I don't celebrate it.
So, I shall go gather some facts about Kuching-pura and present it to my Phonetik class tomorrow.
