8th March 2006 - Day 142

Today was an exciting day.

First, there was the lab which I thought I prepared for yesterday. But I wasn't able to answer some questions of the Betreuer, and was made to sit elsewhere to read up on the experiment.

Good too. I couldn't recall anything at all. Seems like German words takes up a larger capacity to store.

Martina K. explained later to the Betreuer that I had an exam today, and should be forgiven for not preparing. I think that's a lousy excuse. The reason is that I took the flu tablet and became groggy after that. But still, someone spoke up for me and I appreciate that.

Lab went on as usual. Fine tuning and waiting.

I had about 4 hours before my Prüfung appointment. I spent it to do some last minute revisions. I had my lunch and went to the place about 1.5 hours earlier, only to realise at 1400, that I had forgotten to bring out my gelbe Zettel.

More than enough time for me to go back to hostel to take it.

The Prüfung started at 1510 instead as the professor had some visitors to the institute. The Prüfung was terrible. I didn't really concentrate on the topics which he asked. In fact, I was only able to answer the questions because it was somewhat related to another module I was doing.

He asked another question which exposed how lacking my Grundlagen is. It's about head and loss of head. I can only vaguely recall it being introduced during Fluid Mechanics lecture in Semester 2. The lecturer only mentioned it briefly (if I was paying attention then).

I could only remember there are different charts available for the different pipings, each with their own values of loss of heads.

"Ich kann Ihnen nur eine schlechte 2,3 geben."

Yeah, supposedly bad. I heard from someone that in Hauptdiplom Prüfung, 2,0 is already considered "not good". But it's good enough for me. I passed!

I know this for sure. There wasn't any problems with the language for this lecture. I could understand most parts of it without much difficulties.

And my flu is suddenly gone. Miraculous, isn't it?

The lab tomorrow is supposed to last for the whole day.

So, better get some rest now.

If I were to convert 2,3 to our scale, it's a B-. The goal here is to pass all Prüfungen. Anything more than 4,0 makes me feel good (though it's pointless). Make use of the opportunity to do only the bare minimum required and still get away with it!

Yeah, passed all my Prüfungen. Now doing labs and reports everyday.

Ok. Anything less than 4,0. I meant to say anything more than the minimum standard.

The Professor said schlechte 2,3 himself, not me.
