10th October 2005 - Day 7
Today, I woke up at 0750 despite not setting my alarm clock the previous night. I think the weather here is quite dry. Either that, or I'm not drinking enough water. My nose is running and my throat is a little hoarse.
Due to time constraints, I had 40g of chocolate for breakfast as I walked down the still-not-so-familiar Hagsfelder Allee. I had to be at Marktplatz by 0900 for my language course. So I walked quite fast to be on time.
I reached the destination in 30 minutes, with a forehead full of sweat. I then told the Lehrer that I wanted to switch class. Yes, I decided that it wouldn't do me good to be in this class, since I have difficulties understanding it. So I asked to be switched to Class 3 instead.
Some of the things were taught in NUS, while some other were new to me. So I presume that this class is more suitable for me. I have to do a Referat with a Mexican. It's not too bad I guess. Just that we didn't know what topic to choose.
Today, I made a life changing decision. After some deliberation, I've decided on it.

Actually, it's no big deal. I just had to get it simply because I don't want to walk to the university everyday. With this ticket, I can simply hop on to any öffentliches Verkehrsmittel. Otherwise, it's going to cost me 2€ each time. It is valid from October 2005 to March 2006. Within this period, you can expect me to utilise the ticket quite often.
Next up. The Bahncard 50. It'll cost 100€ for students, but it's good value for money as I'll only need to pay 50% of the full price when I buy train tickets with it.
Then came lunch time. I went to the Mensa for lunch. I had Rindfleisch, Pommes und Paprikasalat.I think it's because of the new school term starting, there are now 6 food items to choose from. What I will eat is largely determined by what is offered by the Mensa. But it is quite healthy, I think.
After lunch, I decided to drop by Wal-Mart. Just to see what is available there. It carries a wide range of goods (though not always the cheapest). I bought some apples there. It was 1.48€ for 6 apples. They tasted quite nice though.
I came back to hostel after that. My nose was still running, and so was not in the mood to do more Straßenbahn hopping.
Dinner consisted of the usual stuffs: Brot, Schinken, Salami, Käse und Eistee. I think I really should start doing some cooking soon. I can't possibly survive on that alone for my whole exchange! Hmm, I suppose the craving for rice hasn't kicked in yet. Before that happens, I better start looking for recipes.
Ok. Think it's time for some deutsche Übung. My German language ability is getting from bad to worse.
So, I'm going to do some self learning before taking some medicine for my runny nose and going to bed.
