8th October 2005 - Day 5

Morning, just another day.

I woke up at 0745 and switched on my laptop. Since it's a Saturday, I can expect people in Singapore to log on at this time.

Anyway, I spent about 2 hours chatting on the net (so talkative). After which, I had my breakfast of bread and ham, washed up and went out at 1030.

Instead of heading straight, I turned left into Hagsfelder Allee to find that there's a small supermarket hidden there. Nothing to be pleased about. Short opening hours, slightly more expensive items and limited range of goods.

I was to be at the Hauptbahnhof at 1130. Knowing that I was running late, I went to the main road and took a Straßenbahn. I reached the Hauptbahnhof at 1117.

The meeting place was in the train station in front of the Macdonald's. Quite a lot of people were there. The purpose of meeting there was to go for a Ausflug to Trifels.

I just joined one of the group (like always), and hopped on the crowded train. The train ride took around 1 hour. Nothing interesting happened though.

After visiting Heidelberg last year, I thought that Trifels was exceptionally boring.

Doesn't this look similar to Heidelberg?

Anyway, there were some other pretty/interesting things I saw too.
For example:

Some rock formation near the castle

The castle from some angle

Old ladies and gentlemen climbing up the castle

The castle from some other angle

And not forgetting:

The resident not-so-sparkling-clean urinal

Perfect, don't you think?

By the time we've finished, it was already 1530. So we made our way down from the hill, and went back to the train station to wait for a train.

Then I went grocery shopping with this guy from Hong Kong. Boring day. To spice it up, I bought some rice to test out the microwave rice cooker I've brought along. I bought the most expensive type available, because it reads:

"Dieser feine Reis mit seinem aromatischen Duft ist besonders geeignet für asiatische Gerichte"

As you may already know, their rice are etwas anderes from our type in Singapore. I'm not used to the rice here and so bought something which I thought would taste more like our rice (which is of course, imported from Thailand). See? You have to pay for your habits and belief.

After which, I took the Straßenbahn and Bus back. I had my dinner, which consisted of bread, ham, salami and cheese. I think it was lucky that I lived with the Gastfamilie last year. They made me believe that it's normal to eat dinner like your breakfast. I am so easily conditioned.

I wanted to go to the Party at Stadtmitte. But it was too full and I had to wait outside. So I gave up on waiting and came back to hostel instead.

So now I'm going to take a shower and then ins Bett gehen.
